Ithaca Police Department arrested a man early Monday morning on felony weapons charges after a traffic stop on South Meadow Street.

At approximately 5:58 a.m. Monday, a marked IPD unit observed a vehicle traveling north on Elmira Road onto South Meadow Street. According to officers, the vehicle was driving erratically and changing lanes without signaling. The vehicle was stopped in the 200 block of North Meadow Street.

Upon approaching the vehicle officers detected the smell of marijuana. Officers conducted a search and found a sawed-off double-barrel shotgun.

Officers charged Joseph R. Herrick, 37, of Rock Stream, NY with Criminal Possession of a Fire Arm, a Class E Felony, Unlawful Possession of Marihuana, a violation and Improper Signal, a traffic infraction.

Herrick is scheduled to appear in Ithaca City Court at a later date.
