ITHACA, N.Y. –– As the holidays wind down, and it’s time to take down the old Christmas tree, the City of Ithaca will collect discarded trees left on city curb-sides.

This year’s Department of Public Works tree pick-up will run from Jan. 6 through Jan. 24.

The service is offered free of charge –– no yard waste or garbage tags are required.

You can put your tree out any day, not dependent on your trash day, but the city asks that residents be sure that all trees are free of any decorations, ornaments, lights, and stands.

Trees will be picked up as time and weather allows, and will be run through the city’s wood chipper, with the mulch added to the free community mulch pile on Pier Road East of Newman Golf Course.

Residents can call the Public Works Division of Parks and Forestry at 607-272-1718 with any questions or concerns regarding curb-side tree pick up.
