ITHACA, N.Y. — The Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office announced on Thursday that a reward is being offered for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in a December home invasion and shooting in Newfield that left one dead.
The sheriff’s office, partnering with New York State Crime Stoppers, is offering a reward of up to $2,500 for information that “directly leads to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible,” according to an announcement on Facebook from the sheriff’s office.
Tompkins County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a shooting inside a home on Shaffer Road in the Town of Newfield at approximately 1:26 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2019. Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, a resident of the home, Dejour Xavier Gandy, age 29, was found deceased from an apparent gunshot wound. Another resident, who was inside the home at the time, contacted 911 and reported the incident.
According to another witness, three black males wearing masks entered the home and confronted the victim with guns drawn, one of which shot at the victim before all three fled the scene.
Investigators also requested residents in the vicinity of the house on Shaffer Road with outdoor security cameras to come forward with footage that may be helpful.
