ITHACA, N.Y. –– Data released by the Tompkins County Health Department (TCHD) early Saturday evening shows that another patient from New York City has died.
“On behalf of the Tompkins County Legislature, I want to express sincere condolences to the family grieving for the loss of their loved ones from COVID-19. Every loss caused by this devastating virus has an impact. I know that our community will join me in prayers and condolences for the patients’ family and in doing our part to stop the spread of COVID-19,” a statement from Legislature Chairwoman Leslyn McBean-Clairborne on the TCHD website says.
Two patients were transferred from city hospitals to Cayuga Medical Center, according to Martin Stallone, CEO of Cayuga Health System. The first of the two deaths was reported Friday morning –– the first reported covid death in Tompkins County.
McBean-Clairborne went on to say, “Cayuga Health System has prepared diligently for our community response to this virus, and acted with compassion treating fellow New Yorkers here in Tompkins County. We’re all New Yorkers, and we all have a role in stopping the spread and caring for others during this increasingly difficult time”
Additionally, according to the data coming out of the county one more person has been hospitalized with COVID-19, bringing the total number of hospitalized patients to 5.
Since Friday there has been one more positive test result, bringing that total to 113. Negative test results are up 58, for a total of 2,109 people that have tested negative for coronavirus locally.
The total number of tests that have been done continues to climb –– 2,403 people have been tested as of Saturday, up from 2,290 on Friday.
Also announced on Saturday –– the Cayuga Health Sampling Site will be closed on Monday, April 13 due to a forecast of inclement weather. It will reopen on Tuesday, April 14 for regular hours, 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
