ITHACA, N.Y. –– Ithaca police arrested 25 year-old Michael LaMontain of Lansing in connection with multiple burglaries after responding to a burglary in progress on North Plain Street Saturday.

At approximately 7:01 a.m., officers responded to a home on the 100 Block of North Plain Street where  residents provided law enforcement with a description of the suspect.

Based on the victim’s description, officers identified LaMontain who was still within two blocks of the residence after fleeing the scene. Following a brief pursuit LaMontain was apprehend and taken into custody without further incident.

LaMontain was found to be in possession of property from the Plain Street residence, in addition to property from a series of burglaries reported in Ithaca over the last few weeks.

According to police, investigations into all incidents are ongoing.

In connection to Saturday’s incident LaMontain was charged with Burglary in the Second Degree and Grand Larceny in the Fourth Degree. He was arraigned in the Ithaca City Court by Judge Richard Wallace.

During the arraignment LaMontain was remanded to the Tompkins County Jail in lieu of bail.

LaMontain is scheduled to appear again in the Ithaca City Court on Monday, June 22 at 9:00 a.m.
