On Monday, July 20 from 6 to 7 p.m., WRFI will broadcast “Which Way Forward: Conversations on Systematic Oppression” hosted by WRFI’s Godfrey Simmons, who will be joined by Fabina Benites, Director of Ithaca’s Multicultural Resource Center.
The novel coronavirus crisis has highlighted and exacerbated long-standing, racial and social inequities. Now, the police killings of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Elijah McClain, Tony McDade and others have ignited renewed outrage and mobilization against systemic racism, oppression, and police violence.
The series explores what we can learn from past struggles, and how we can build a strategy for dismantling the systems that kill black, brown, and indigenous people and perpetuate racial injustice.
Tune in at 88.1FM in Ithaca, 91.9FM in Watkins Glen, online at www.wrfi.org, and right via Facebook Live on the event page.
Fabina Benites is the Director of Ithaca’s Multicultural Resource Center (MRC), which works to build community through cultural and political education, anti-racism organizing, and cross-cultural movement building. Benites is also the founder of SoulNest, a collective decolonizing healing platform for BIPOC.
Godfrey Simmons is a WRFI host and board member as well as an award-winning actor, producer, director, and playwright who has spent thirty years amplifying the voices of marginalized people and communities.
