ITHACA, N.Y. –– Looking to get outside and help tidy up the Ithaca City Cemetery?

Join volunteers from Historic Ithaca at the site on University Ave on Saturday, Aug. 8 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. We’ll be beautifying the cemetery by picking up trash, clearing brush, and cleaning headstones.

The sign up for the event can be found online, here.

Volunteers are asked to meet at the cemetery shed near the hillside burial vaults. To safely manage this event, Historic Ithaca requires that you pre-register and read your confirmation e-mail. A limited number of volunteers can be accommodated at the site. We cannot accept “day of event” walkups, and pre-registration is required

There will be projects for individuals or your group/household/”quaranteam” to sign up for on our registration page.

Please wear a mask. Groups/households/”quaranteams” will each work as a separate “pod” at an assigned site in the cemetery to maintain physical distancing. Masks must be worn when a 6 feet separation cannot be maintained.

Please bring your own gloves, garden tools, and digging tools, and your own water in your personal water bottle, sunscreen, and bug spray.

The grass is tall, so wear long pants as a barrier to ticks. A hat is also useful!

We will have hand sanitizer on-site and will sanitize our supplies. We ask you to keep your gloves on for the duration of the cleanup.

In the event of inclement weather, the cleanup will be rescheduled.
