ITHACA, N.Y.— One person was injured when they were struck by a car on North Meadow Street on the afternoon of Saturday, Sept. 26 in an accident that shut down a block of the street for approximately 30 minutes.
According to police, the pedestrian was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries and was conscious throughout the aftermath. The driver was not injured and remained on the scene while medics tended to the victim and police responded. The police said both parties were at fault in the crash.
“The operator of the vehicle was eastbound on 600 W State/MLK Jr. St., had a green arrow and was making a left hand turn onto 100 N. Meadow St.,” the release said. “The pedestrian was crossing the north side of the intersection of Meadow St from East to West and was in the crosswalk, but had a Do Not Cross Signal. Both the operator and the pedestrian were found to have fault in the cause of the crash.”
Ithaca police, the fire department and Bangs Ambulance all helped with the response.
