ITHACA, N.Y. — Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand has endorsed Leslie Danks Burke in her bid to unseat incumbent state Senator Tom O’Mara, her campaign announced on Tuesday.
“I’ve known Leslie for nearly a decade through her work to elevate and elect women with the Democratic Women of the Southern Tier and Finger Lakes, and her tireless efforts to increase accountability in government through Trailblazers PAC which she founded in 2016,” said Sen. Gillibrand in a release. “Leslie has been a strong advocate for reproductive health care through her work with Planned Parenthood, and a long time advocate for rural communities. It’s my honor to endorse her own candidacy for state Senate in New York’s 58th district.”
Gillibrand’s support means that both of New York’s senators have endorsed Danks Burke’s campaign.
“I’m honored to have the support of Senator Gillibrand, a fierce advocate for the issues that our district cares about, like childcare for our working families, supporting local farmers, fighting for jobs and supporting local businesses,” Danks Burke said. “I’m ready to keep standing with her to get a fair share for the 58th district.”
Danks Burke is an attorney and longtime advocate of healthcare, childcare and rural economy. She has previously picked up the endorsements of New York’s Sen. Chuck Schumer, Plumbers and Pipefitters Union Local 267, and New York State United Teachers (NYSUT) and the Working Families Party, among others.
She will face off with Sen. Tom O’Mara in the general elections to be held on Tuesday, Nov. 3.
