ITHACA, N.Y.—Ithaca Fire Department extinguished a fire at the Tompkins County Department of Recycling and Materials Management building on Monday afternoon, with no injuries reported.
The recycling center was closed after about 3 p.m. as the department subdued the fire. A release from Tompkins County Director of Communications Dominick Recckio said that the recycling center, located at 160 Commercial Avenue, would resume operations as regularly scheduled on Tuesday, Nov. 10.
Recckio’s release went on to state that pending an incident report, the recycling department would release more information about “recycling safety and hazardous materials.”
As firefighters responded, traffic was being redirected out of the center. At least three trucks responded to the blaze, plus Ithaca Police Department and Bangs Ambulance.
