The Ithaca Voice and its supporters have just been provided with a unique opportunity to strengthen its work and help the organization grow.

From Nov. 1 to Dec. 31, 2020, The Voice will be participating in NewsMatch, a program that will match individual one-time donations of up to $5,000, or, in the case of recurring monthly donations, match 12 times the monthly amount, the equivalent of a full year’s donation! The cap is $11,500, so any donations received during the next two months up to that total amount will be doubled.

This will allow The Voice to expand its already-strong coverage to include more in-depth reporting on the environment, education, government and other issues that our community cares most about. This is an ambitious goal, and it can only be achieved with your help. Just click on the “Donate” button on the website to connect to The Voice’s secure GiveGab page. Or, if you prefer to donate by check, make it out to “The Ithaca Voice” and send it to The Ithaca Voice, 102 E. MLK Jr. St., Suite #2, Ithaca, NY 14850. Please note “NewsMatch” on the memo line and make sure that the check is dated between November 1st, 2020 and December 31st, 2020.

Since its inception in 2014, The Ithaca Voice has been committed to providing the community with the news and information it needs. Thanks to support from foundations, corporate sponsors and individual donors, The Voice has grown during its first five years to be the primary source of fast, free, accurate reporting in the Ithaca area.

Its small staff published more than 1,600 stories last year, covering a wide range of events and issues. One outcome of its commitment to the community has been a high level of reader engagement. The website had more than 1.4 million unique visitors last year, with close to 4.6 million total sessions. The Voice has 10,900 Twitter followers, 9,100 Instagram Followers, and its Facebook page leads local media with more than 25,900 page likes.

But running a news operation is expensive, even for nonprofits that don’t need to generate profits for shareholders.

By supporting The Ithaca Voice, you’ll be supporting unbiased, in-depth, locally focused journalism. You’ll be helping the site provide you more and better stories, as well as providing opportunities for aspiring journalists in the community.

All content on The Ithaca Voice is and always will be free. The nonprofit news model is the future of journalism, and in a time when traditional local news models are declining, The Ithaca Voice is growing—thanks to you.

Help take The Ithaca Voice to the next level. Give to the NewsMatch fundraiser, have your contribution doubled and help provide the Ithaca community with the news it needs.
