ITHACA, N.Y.—Another person has died from COVID-19 at the Oak Hill Manor Nursing Home, a result of an outbreak among staff and residents that has now killed five people.

When the outbreak and two initial deaths were first reported, 39 residents of the nursing home had tested positive as well as 13 staff members. It is unclear how many people have been infected overall at the nursing home, though there have now been three additional deaths following the first two.

The Oak Hill outbreak has accounted for five of the six overall deaths from COVID-19 in Tompkins County.

“We were notified today of the passing of a resident at Oak Hill nursing home,” said Public Health Director Frank Kruppa. “Our thoughts are with the family and with all of those who are battling the disease.”

The deaths were reported during another day of over 30 new positive tests, though today’s numbers were somewhat balanced by 46 recoveries. There are now 307 active cases of COVID-19 in Tompkins County. Three people were discharged from the hospital, leaving eight still hospitalized with the coronavirus.
