ITHACA, N.Y.—The Tompkins County Health Department has announced another COVID-19 death, saying it was reported to them Sunday, Jan. 3.

It is the 15th overall death in Tompkins County from COVID-19 since the pandemic started. It is unclear which nursing home the person lived at, as the Tompkins County Health Department did not name the facility. The health department did not specify why they were not naming the nursing home in this instance.

Public Health Director Frank Kruppa offered his condolences to the family and caretakers of the victim.

Of the 15 COVID-19 deaths in the county, 14 are known to have occurred in nursing homes. At least 12 people have died at Oak Hill Manor, along with an additional death last week at the Racker Residential House.

There is also an ongoing coronavirus outbreak at Beechtree Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Ithaca. That outbreak has not claimed any lives as of last week, though it has infected over 60 people.
