ITHACA, N.Y.—The Ithaca Police announced that they have arrested a man who they believe is responsible for a string of burglaries around residences in Ithaca.
Police said they were conducting a Burglary Suppression Detail in response to a spree of burglaries around the city of Ithaca when they noticed a man known to them as Kasheen Camel, 43, of Ithaca. Camel was just recently released from incarceration after being charged with several burglaries in mid-2020.
Upon seeing police, Camel ran through several backyards and behind a house, though they then found him several blocks away. Camel was “verbally hostile” towards police when they engaged with him and entered a local hotel.
“Based on his actions, the items he was carrying, and his past behavior, it was believed that the items being carried may have been stolen,” according to police.
Police said they followed Camel’s footsteps in the snow and identified several victims that said they’d had property stolen from their homes, and the descriptions of that property matched what police had seen Camel carrying.
Camel was arrested at the hotel after a search warrant revealed the stolen property, as well as additional items. Camel was charged with second degree burglary.
Anyone who has recently had a debit/credit or gift card they believe was stolen recently, police are looking for their rightful owners. They are encouraged to call (607) 272-3245.
