TRUMANSBURG, N.Y. –– The Trumansburg Fire Department, along with Trumansburg Ambulance, Ithaca Fire Department and the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office rescued a driver Tuesday afternoon after a car accident on Taughannock Blvd.

Emergency crews responded to the 1200 block of Taughannock Blvd at about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday and found a vehicle off the roadway, with the driver still inside. Crews were able to use extrication tools to remove the door from the car and rescue the unconscious driver.

The driver was then brought to Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA, and as of yesterday, is in critical condition. An ongoing accident investigation is being conducted by the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office.

The Trumansburg Fire Department is taking this opportunity to remind everyone to slow down, wear a seatbelt and be aware of dangerous road conditions in the winter. Additionally they say to always keep an emergency kit in your vehicle and remember that conditions can change quickly.
