TOMPKINS COUNTY, N.Y.—The Tompkins County Health Department’s latest daily update shows another death from COVID-19, the 16th reported by the county since the beginning of the pandemic. All 16 have died since the beginning of October, with 15 of them coming since the last week of November.

The health department did not provide any further information regarding the circumstances of the death, though a county official confirmed that this victim was not connected to a nursing home. Of the COVID-19 deaths in Tompkins County, now all but two have been nursing home residents.

“TCHD was informed of the death of a Tompkins County resident today. Our thoughts are with the family of the individual and all those battling the disease,” stated Frank Kruppa, Public Health Director in a tweet sent from the Tompkins County Health Department Twitter account.

There are currently 31 hospitalizations with active COVID-19 cases in the county, out of 252 active cases, according to the health department’s latest update.
