ITHACA, N.Y. –– After much anticipation from the public, the long-awaited Grand Opening of Trader Joe’s on Meadow Street in Ithaca is finally upon us. The grocer is slated to open its doors Friday, Feb. 19 at 8 a.m.

According to a company spokesperson, the new 12,500 square foot store located at 744 S. Meadow Street, marks the 29th Trader Joe’s store in New York State and the 515th Trader Joe’s location in the country. Prior to the arrival of this new location the closest Trader Joe’s storefronts have been located in Rochester and Syracuse.

Long a favorite of Ithacans who had to otherwise travel miles for their products, Trader Joe’s will also bring with it new jobs to the area. Already more than 40 crew members have been hired at the new location and the staffing process continues.

Moments before doors open at 8 a.m. there will a brief ceremonial ribbon cutting and again, according to the company, “the celebration will continue with giveaways and more.”

For those looking to attend the opening, you should know that there will be a number of social distancing measures in place including social distancing and mandatory mask-wearing.

Regular store operating hours will be from 8 a.m. until 9 p.m. daily, with senior hours reserved for the first hour of business on Sundays and Wednesdays.
