ITHACA, N.Y.—The Ithaca Police Department are investigating an incident on West State Street Friday night that left two people injured by gunfire.

IPD said that the incident took place around 5:10 p.m. on Jan. 15. Police responded to sounds of gunfire in the area and there were several 911 calls. Upon arrival, officers found two people, a man and a woman, struck by gunfire. Their injuries were not life threatening, but the two were taken by ambulance to an area hospital.

Police said witnesses reported seeing a man fleeing the scene in a tie-dyed shirt and a face mask, heading towards West Buffalo Street on foot. Police were unable to find the suspect upon a search. Tompkins County Sheriffs, New York State Police and Ithaca Fire Department all assisted with the response.
