ITHACA, N/Y. –– The Ithaca Police Department has arrested and charged a suspect in connection to a mid-January shooting that ended in multiple injuries.
At around 7:20 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 12 the Ithaca Police Department arrested 19-year-old Michael L. Baez on several charges including second-degree Attempted Murder, second-degree Criminal Possession of a Weapon, first-degree Reckless Endangerment and Tampering with Physical Evidence.
The evening of Jan. 15, police responded to the 500 block of West State Street after numerous rounds were shot into a group of people which, according to the latest police press release, included a young child. Upon arrival, officers found two people, a man and a woman, struck by gunfire. Their injuries were not life-threatening, but the two were taken by ambulance to an area hospital from which they were later released.
Following an IPD investigation with assistance from the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office, police finally arrested Baez at a residence in Freeville, Friday.
Baez was later arraigned by Ithaca City Court Judge Wallace, and remanded to the Tompkins County Jail on $75,000 bail.
