TOMPKINS COUNTY, N.Y.—Tompkins County Sheriff Derek Osborne has issued a travel advisory due to the winter weather conditions in the area, urging that drivers be more careful than normal while traveling. It’s a continuation of yesterday’s declaration of the same, after the area has been barraged with over a foot of snow in the last 48 hours.

“Hazardous conditions exist throughout the county due to heavy snowfall,” stated an announcement from the county. “Lake enhanced snow is expected throughout the day today and taper off late this afternoon into the evening. Highway crews are diligently working to clear snow as quickly as possible.”

According to the announcement, the travel advisory does not restrict travel, simply encourages extra care while driving, and to “avoid any unnecessary travel.”
