ITHACA, N.Y.—One person was injured in a car accident Tuesday morning that apparently stemmed from a shooting that took place just beforehand, according to an Ithaca Police Department press release.
The incident took place around 8:45 a.m. on Feb. 16, when police responded to a report of gunfire that involved a motor vehicle, “possibly a Mercedes.” Subsequently, a second vehicle was involved in a separate motor vehicle accident, in which a grey Audi ran a red light at the intersection of RT 13 North and Cascadilla Street and hit a truck that was stopped at the red light.
The Audi driver then fled the scene and is being searched for. The truck driver was transported to Cayuga Medical Center by Bangs Ambulance. The aforementioned Mercedes also fled the area, last seen in the area of Cascadilla and Fifth Streets. The shooting incident, it is believed, took place in the 500 block of Cascadilla Street, and included bullets hitting a residence.
Police said the two drivers, of the Audi and the Mercedes, are known to each other. They did not specifically name a connection between the shooting and the motor vehicle accident. Police are “following up on numerous leads and have secured evidence in (the) case.”
