ITHACA, N.Y. –– GrassRoots Festival of Music & Dance organized announced Friday that the beloved multi-day music event will not happen for a second year in a row, but instead will remain on hiatus until 2022.

“As the world continues to get closer to the end of the COVID-19 pandemic, it is clear that that we are not at the end of the tunnel just yet. Although vaccine distribution is increasing and COVID rates are declining, after much discussion, the Finger Lakes GrassRoots Festival of Music & Dance cannot in good conscience guarantee the communities’ health and safety this summer and will be postponing,” the organization’s statement says.

The 30th annual festival will now take place July 21 through July 24, 2022. The preceding 5th Annual Culture Camp will be postponed to July 17 through July 20, 2022.

GrassRoots organizers assure that all previously purchased Admission Tickets and Camping Passes will be automatically transferred to 2022, but if ticket holders cannot attend the 2022 event, they may fill out a Ticket Transfer Request to transfer their tickets to any future GrassRoots Festival in either Trumansburg, New York or Shakori Hills, North Carolina locations at GrassRootsFest.org.

GrassRoots, like many businesses and organizations in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, struggled this year –– hosting a capital campaign back in December to raise $100,000. Another year without festival revenue will be challenging, but organizers say they’re ready to come back strong in 2022.

“As a 501(c) not-for-profit organization, this first ever year of no GrassRoots festivals has been challenging,” a press release states. “But the organization is poised to make it through.”

Tickets for the 30th Annual Finger Lakes GrassRoots Festival of Music & Dance are on-sale now at GrassRootsFest.org/tickets.
