ITHACA, N.Y.—The Ithaca City School District’s Board of Education will have one new face on it going forward, as newcomer Kelly Evans defeated two-term incumbent Ann Reichlin during the annual board elections on May 18.
Nicole LaFave led all vote getters with 1,340, followed by Moira Lang, who received 1,229 votes. Both secured their third terms. Reichlin was seeking her third term, but finished last of the four and was thus eliminated—Evans received 1,092 votes to Reichlin’s 1,084.
Barring anything unforeseen, the results will be certified at a special Board of Education meeting May 19.
“All I can really say is that I’m very grateful for all the support and I cant wait to dive in,” said Evans, reached Wednesday morning.
Further, both the annual budget and the proposed use of capital reserve funds from 2018 were easily: 71.1 percent of voters approved the budget (a bit of a surprise, given there had been some pushback on social media over the budget’s size), and 82.4 percent approved of the capital reserve fund plans, which will be geared toward new bus purchases.
