ITHACA, N.Y.—A van caught on fire while in transportation on Tuesday afternoon in the Town of Ithaca. The circumstances of the fire are under investigation.
Firefighters responded to Evergreen Lane in the Town of Ithaca around 1:45 p.m. on May 4 in response to a “van pulling a trailer that caught on fire,” according to a Facebook post from the Ithaca Fire Department.
According to the post, the driver of the van noticed that smoke was coming from the hood of his vehicle, pulled over and checked the engine. When he did, he was able to see flames emanating from the engine. Though he then retrieved a fire extinguisher, the fire had grown too large by the time he had returned.
The van was “burning out of control” by the time firefighters arrived. After about 45 minutes, they were able to bring the fire under control, with assistance from the New York State Police.
