TOMPKINS COUNTY, N.Y.—Tompkins County is about to undergo some of the most sweeping changes in leadership, both in county government on the legislature and in the City of Ithaca’s Common Council.
With half of Common Council’s terms ending (and four of the five potential candidates declining to run), plus several longtime Tompkins County Legislature figures retiring from their posts, this year’s primaries take on an additional level of significance.
Commensurate with that significance, voters have nine full days to participate in early voting before the official Primary Election Day is held. Early voting began on Saturday, June 12, and extends until Sunday, June 20. Those interested can head to the Board of Elections office at 128 East Buffalo Street in downtown Ithaca to vote during the following hours:
More early voting details are available here. The actual Primary Election Day will be held from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, June 22, with an extensive list of polling locations listed here.
Absentee ballots are also still available, though the deadline to postmark an application is on June 15, and June 21 is the last day to apply in-person for an absentee ballot. Other deadlines are listed here. Details on voter registration can be found here.
