UPDATE 4:14 P.M. –– A traffic light is out on State Route 13 at the intersection of Willow Ave and Dey Street. New York State Department of Transportation has been notified.

According to Tompkins County Dispatch, drivers should “treat the intersection like a four-way stop” until the light can be repaired.

TOMPKINS COUNTY, N.Y. –– A summer storm swept through Tompkins County Tuesday afternoon, toppling trees and closing off roads in the region. 

A severe thunderstorm warning went into effect in the county beginning around 1:15 p.m., including in Groton, Dryden and Elmira, according to the Binghamton National Weather Service. The warning lasted for an hour and a half, with residents asked to stay inside to avoid being hurt by high winds and falling debris.

Unlike last week’s storms that caused outages in downtown Ithaca and temporarily left more than 2,000 county residents without power, the Tuesday afternoon storm seems to have spared the downtown area of similar damage.
