ITHACA, N.Y. –– The City of Ithaca today said that water main replacement work will continue from the intersection of Plain and Center Streets north into the 400 block of South Plain Street, causing traffic to be interrupted in the area for nearly a month.

Crews will be working to replace pipes on Plain and connect them to a new water main in the 300 block of Center Street.

The work will begin Friday, July 9 at 7:00 a.m. and is set to be completed by Friday, August 6 at 3:30 p.m.

The 100 to 200 blocks of Center Street, which had previously undergone water work will now be open to local traffic. The 400 Block of Plain Street from the traffic circle to the intersection with Clinton Street will be completely closed to through traffic. Local and emergency access will be maintained.

Recommended detours include Southbound traffic on Plain Street turning left on Clinton Street, right on Albany Street, and right on Wood Street to return to Plain Street.

Northbound traffic on Plain Street should turn right on Wood Street, left on Albany Street, and left on Clinton Street to return to Plain Street.
