ITHACA, NY — SUNY Cortland and Ithaca College’s football rivalry is graduating to grander heights: Cortaca Jug 2022 will be decided in Yankee Stadium.

The game will take place on November 12th, 2022, and tickets will go on sale for the general public on November 16th at cortacajug.com. Ithaca and Cortland College will each receive 5,000 tickets in the fall of 2022 for sale to their students, faculty and staff.

The opportunity for the Ithaca Bombers and Cortland Red Dragons to play at “The House that Jeter Built” came at the invitation of the New York Yankees organization. The storied stadium offers a fitting setting for the decades old rivalry — the intensity of Cortaca fandom far outstrips its league.

Over 45,000 people lined the MetLife stadium for Cortaca Jug 2019 to watch the teams duke it out, shattering the previous Division III attendance record by about 8,000 fans. In 2013, Cortaca turned into a crowd of 4,000 to 6,000 college students raging through the City of Cortland’s streets.

The chaos of Cortaca Jug 2013 yielded plenty of lessons to organizers, and the revelries surrounding Cortaca have not transformed into an uncontrollable bacchanal since.

Any pent up energy from Cortaca Jug 2020’s cancellation will have to be let out at SUNY Cortland this year. The stakes will be set for Yankee Stadium at Cortaca 2021 on Saturday, November 13th, in the den of the Red Dragons.

Go, Bombers.
