ITHACA, N.Y.—Gather your art loving friends and set out for the second weekend of the Greater Ithaca Art Trail.
35 of the 50 artists on the Art Trail will are open for visitors on Oct. 16 and 17 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. (Because of covid, the list of open artists may change, so be sure to find the pdf listing who is open on the ArtTrail.com event page before you set out for visits.The artists will be thrilled to see you and show you their studios and latest work.
On Thursdays and Fridays, October 14, 15, there are 6:30pm virtual workshops and panels. All free and on zoom!
The Art Trail is a wonderful addition to Tompkins County’s artistic offerings. Not only does the region have a wealth of amazing artists, it’s also a beautiful area to visit, especially in October when the fall foliage is at its peak. Explorers can travel Ithaca and the rural County roads, with beautiful scenery and artist studios as their destinations.
Visitors will find talented painters, photographers, sculptors, printmakers, fiber artists, ceramists, makers of fine furniture, collage artists, illustrators, mixed media artists, jewelers, digital artists, and creators of decorative functional art. The artists are thrilled to share their passion for their art making and show off what they’ve been working on!
A 2020 visitor on the trail said “I was blown away by the quality of the art that I saw and the really cool art studios. And I didn’t expect all the wonderful conversations I had with the artists. The Art Trail is such a unique and special event. And when you combine visiting such great artists with the beauty of the area, this is definitely going to be an annual event for me and I’ll be sure to bring heaps of friends with me!”
Robin Schwartz, CAP Program Director says, “Before 2021, the Art Trail was solely live studio visits. The pandemic gave us the opportunity to rethink how we connect artists with audiences. The added zoom events expanded our audience far beyond those within driving distance and gave more people the opportunity to meet the artists and provide access to great conversations. “
Those who are on a quest to buy fine art will find art priced from $10 to $8,000 and everything in between. According to Schwartz, “Artists on the trail offer a broad collection of original work at a wide variety of prices. Purchasing art can be an exhilarating experience and connecting with the artist is part of that experience! (And it’s a great time to start thinking about buying holiday presents!)”
The Community Arts Partnership’s CAP ArtSpace (on the Commons) with also feature a Group Show of Art Trail artists with an opening on Gallery Night, Friday, October 1st from 5pm to 8pm. This exhibit is a great opportunity to see all the Art Trail artists’ work in one location. A virtual version of the exhibit will also be posted.
