ITHACA, N.Y.—One person who was stabbed on Saturday afternoon in “the Jungle,” the local homeless encampment in Southwest Park, was taken to the hospital and is now in stable condition, according to the Ithaca Police Department.
The incident took place around 3:45 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11. Police responded to the Jungle, which is located, in part, behind some of the big box retailers on South Fulton Street.
Once there, one man, 35 years old, was found with a stab wound to his head. Police said the victim was treated on the scene for injuries, but then transported to a regional trauma center for further treatment.
Police do not believe the attack was random, and said that the victim and suspect know each other, but did not identify a suspect. Whoever the attacker was had fled the area before police arrived. The investigation is ongoing and police said charges are pending.
