Dear Ithaca Democrats,
2022 is an exciting year to be a Democrat in Ithaca. Interim mayor, and 5th Ward Council member, Laura Lewisās, appointment lasts until the next election in November. Laura Is now a declared candidate to finish the last year of beloved ex-mayor Svante Myrickās last term. A Democratic primary in June will select Laura or another candidate to run for Mayor in the general election.
With redistricting, Ithaca also joins New York State Senate and Congressional districts that favor Democratic candidates. We anticipate spirited primaries for the Democratic nomination in both districts.
Three candidates (Leslie Danks Burke, Lea Webb, Ammitai Worob are running for the new NY State Senate 53rd district. Seven candidates (Francis Conole, Vanessa Fajans-Turner, Steven Holden, Sarah Klee Hood, Chol Majok, Josh Riley, Sam Roberts) are vying for the new NY22nd Congressional District Democratic nomination.
Also, Anna Kelles is currently unopposed in seeking re-election to represent us in the NYS Assembly, 125th Dist.
Throughout March expect to meet a Democrat knocking at your door to ask for signatures to get these folks on the ballot. Many will be members of your local Democratic ward committee doing the hard work that makes our democracy function.
We look forward to seating the best Democratic candidates in the Nov, 2022 elections, following June 28 primaries.
The Ithaca City Democratic Committee welcomes new members. For more information please get in touch with one of the following.
