ITHACA, N.Y.—Walkable Ithaca, a sidewalk restoration project, is scheduled to begin work along 500-900 Giles Street and 1100 East State Street starting March 21, 2022.
The project will include new granite curbs, sidewalks and curb ramps as well as new retaining walls and improved drainage.
The project is funded in part by Climate Smart Community Grant Program, Title 15 of the Environmental Protection Fund through the New York Sate Department of Conservation.
Giles Street will be closed to thru-traffic and a detour will be posted using East State Street (Route 79) and South Aurora Street (Route 96). Access for residents and emergency vehicles will be provided.
After a few weeks, the 1100 block of East State Street will be reduced to a single lane and flaggers will direct traffic in both directions. Drivers and bikers should both expect delays.
This project is scheduled for completion on July 1, though it is subject to change due to inclement weather and unexpected findings.
