ITHACA, N.Y.—The Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a second fatal car crash over the weekend, which also claimed one person’s life.
This incident is separate from the other announcement made by the sheriff’s office earlier Monday, about a fatal motor vehicle crash in Newfield. The sheriff’s office said that this crash took place in the 900 block of East Shore Drive in the Town of Ithaca around 5:10 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, March 20.
Upon arrival, police stated they found a “grey two-door BMW sedan with extensive damage.” Three people had been in the car at the time of the crash, police said. The driver was able to get out of the car themselves, another passenger was trapped inside the car and freed by Ithaca Fire Department, and another person was thrown from the vehicle.
The person who was ejected from the car, Vladislav Varetsa, age 19 of Ithaca, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Police are asking for the public’s help with information about the crash.
The incident is under investigation, and police said that Ithaca Fire Department, Ithaca Police Department, New York State Police and Bangs Ambulance assisted at the scene.
