TOMPKINS COUNTY, N.Y.—With many people’s COVID-19 vaccination status coming closer to a year old, the Tompkins County Health Department has announced that some eligible groups can now receive the second booster dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
The eligible populations are: those 50 years of age and older, those 18-49 who received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine as their primary and booster doses, and those who are 12 years of age and older who are moderately or severely immunocompromised. The second booster should only be taken at least four months after the first.

Vaccine doses are also available at local pharmacies and primary care offices, and TCHD is “encouraging eligible residents to stay up to date on COVID-19 vaccinations.”
“In addition to wearing a high-quality, well-fitting mask in necessary settings, a 2nd booster dose will provide an additional layer of protection for our most vulnerable community members,” said Public Health Director Frank Kruppa. “With additional variants developing, staying up to date on the COVID-19 vaccine is an important step for all of us. Whether you have not yet started a vaccine series or are now planning for your fourth dose, now is the time to get vaccinated.”
