TOMPKINS COUNTY, N.Y.—Democratic candidate for the New York State Senate Leslie Danks Burke has been endorsed by the United Auto Workers (UAW) Region 9, which represents workers in Central and Western New York and parts of New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
While district lines are still unclear, Danks Burke is running for the Democratic nomination and currently facing Lea Webb, a former Binghamton City Council member.
Danks Burke said she’s “proud to have the endorsement of UAW Region 9 and the hardworking members it represents in our region, including Cornell service and maintenance employees and many others across our huge upstate New York region,” and that “Unions like UAW are leading the fight against terrible forces pushing folks out of the middle-class today, and I’ve proudly stood with workers for years to win better wages, worker protections, and investment in our communities.”
Though district lines and a date for the Democratic primary are unclear at this time, Danks Burke continues to move forward with her campaign.
UAW Region 9 Director Jeff Binz said that Danks Burke’s work advocating for hardworking residents has shown that she is willing to “take on big fights to deliver for our communities,” and that “More than ever, we need experienced, passionate leaders like Leslie fighting for good jobs, access to high-quality, affordable healthcare, and stronger worker protections. UAW Region 9 is proud to endorse Leslie for State Senate and we look forward to working with her in the fights ahead.”
