Final update as of June 6: Responding officers from the Ithaca Fire Department, Bangs Ambulance and the City of Ithaca’s Building Department assessed the crash scene prior to removal of the vehicle, before a temporary repair was made later in the morning.

The driver was treated for minor injuries at the local hospital, and there were no other passengers in the vehicle. The driver was also ticketed with applicable charges for causing the accident.

ITHACA, N.Y.—A car crashed into the north-facing side of the Purity Ice Cream building at approximately 4:55 a.m. on June 5, 2022.

Kevin Sullivan, the owner of the building, said that the accident was fairly minor and there were no major injuries. Purity was closed at the time of the accident and no one was in the building.

“We expect to have the wall temporarily repaired this morning,” Sullivan said. “[The] bakery and kitchen will be closed for the day but the fountain will not be closed at all.”
