ITHACA, N.Y.—The Cecil A. Malone Drive Bridge will close for construction beginning June 14, 2022, as the bridge will be replaced with a new 75-foot single-span structure consisting of two traffic lanes, a bike lane and new sidewalks.

The bridge will be closed to vehicle traffic throughout the construction, and a detour will be posted. The current pedestrian bridge will be temporarily relocated outside of the construction zone.

The project is scheduled to finish Dec. 5, 2022.

City of Ithaca Bridge Systems Engineer Addisu Gebre said that the estimates submitted for the project were significantly lower than the bids for it — the funding request increased by $450,000, which brought the total amount needed to $3,444,000, most of which an be reimbursed by the New York State Consolidated Local Street and Highway Improvement Program (CHIPS).
