With the largest statewide competition of the year this week, Special Olympics New York is renewing its call to the Ithaca community for volunteers.
Volunteers are asked to register here.
More than 300 volunteer jobs have yet to be filled to support more than 1,150 Special Olympics athletes and coaches competing in State Summer Games on Saturday, June 25. Games officials say the greatest needs are the following:
- Sports-specific duties include staging, escorting, timing, marshals, linesman
- Track & Field (Ithaca High School) – 200 volunteers needed
- Basketball (Ithaca College- A&E Center) – 40 volunteers needed
- Swimming (Ithaca College- A&E Center) – 30 volunteers needed
No sports experience is necessary. Volunteers will be trained on-site. All Summer Games volunteers must be vaccinated. Additionally, volunteers must be ages 13+ and those ages 13-15 must be accompanied by an adult.
