ITHACA, N.Y.—A threat was made and subsequently handled at Ithaca High School Thursday morning according to school officials — another in a string of threats made in and against local schools over the last two weeks.
According to an e-mail obtained by The Ithaca Voice, IHS Principal Jason Trumble notified the school community of the threat around 1 p.m. Thursday afternoon.
“A threatening statement was made by a student today during 2nd period,” Trumble wrote. “The situation was handled immediately. We have followed up with the proper authorities, as per our safety plan. There is no credible threat to Ithaca High School at this time.”
Trumble continued that various school officials such as counselors, social workers, associate principals and deans will be available “for informal conferences” with students and staff who are concerned.
Officials from IHS and the Ithaca Police Department have not immediately responded to The Voice’s request for comment and more information.
While this is the first reported threat at IHS, two occurred at Lansing High School over the last eight days. As a result of those incidents, three students have been charged with felonies related to terroristic threats.
