ITHACA, N.Y.—Two people have been charged with assault-related counts after an incident in the 300 block of Elmira Road.
In a press release, police said they responded to the scene around 7:18 p.m. on Monday, June 13. Police said the incident involved a victim being sprayed with pepper spray and struck in the back of the head.
Zhyana Masker and Jacole Morris were both arrested at the scene. Masker, who allegedly sprayed the victim with pepper spray, was charged with second-degree harassment while Morris was charged with third-degree attempted assault. Both were released on their own recognizance, according to police.
It appears that police initially thought the suspects possessed a handgun, which had been pointed at the victim during the incident, but police said it was later discovered to be an altered BB gun when it was found in a related vehicle.
The victim did not sustain life-threatening injuries.
