ITHACA, N.Y.—Vidalia onions at Wegmans locations across New York State, including the one in Ithaca, have been recalled due to a potential listeria contamination.
Listeria is a foodborne disease that’s dangerous to pregnant women, children, and elderly adults, and people with weakened immune systems. Symptoms of an infection include fever, diarrhea and headaches.
Vidalia onions are sold by the pound, and have the four-digit price look-up (PLU) codes on the onions are “4159” or “4166,” and were sold on June 23 and 24. Wegmans is offering refunds to any customer that may have purchased the potentially contaminated onions.
Some stores in Pennsylvania and Massachusetts also carried the Vidalia onions being recalled. Wegmans released the following list of stores in New York state that were selling the onions.
