ITHACA, N.Y.—Ithaca Police Department officers responded to a string of reported burglaries throughout the City of Ithaca on Saturday, July 9.
At 6:37 a.m., officers responded to a reported burglary at Safelite Auto Glass on Cecil A. Malone Drive. Upon arrival, officers learned that an exterior door had been damaged and an undisclosed amount of cash had been taken from a safe located inside the business.
At 7:41 a.m., officers responded to Fraternal Order of Eagles on Cecil A. Malone Drive for a reported attempted burglary. During their investigation, officers learned that an unidentified masked subject had attempted to break into the building earlier that same morning around 2:30 a.m., and also unsuccessfully attempted to enter a vehicle and shed nearby, which sustained property damage.
At 8:24 a.m., officers responded to On the Street Pitas on Taughannock Boulevard for a report that the business had been broken into. Items were removed from the business, as well as electronics and an undisclosed amount of cash.
At 1:05 p.m., officers responded to ABC Oriental Rugs on Cecil A. Malone Drive for a reported burglary, during with the suspect entered a garage and removed property from within.
At 1:21 p.m., officers responded to Warehouse Carpet Outlet on Cecil A. Malone Drive for a report of a vehicle that had been rummaged through, though it is unknown whether any items were taken.
The police department encourages residents and business owners to take necessary steps to discourage intruders, like locking doors and windows when businesses or homes are unoccupied, as well as leaving exterior lights on and utilizing alarm systems.
