ITHACA, N.Y.—The Ithaca Police Department responded to a report of an attempted armed break-in on the 300 block of Center Street at approximately 10:19 a.m. on July 19.
The caller reported that three individuals armed with a handgun were actively attempting to enter the residence, but the three suspects had fled the scene when IPD arrived.
Further investigation revealed that the alleged handgun was threatened but never displayed, and no injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
Officers later located the three suspects, confirming that the allegation of the handgun was unsubstantiated. A knife was recovered and confirmed present on the scene, though it had never been displayed.
The perpetrator with the knife was identified as 42-year-old Brett McBean of Ithaca. McBean was arrested and charged with menacing in the third degree and criminal trespassing in the second degree before being arraigned in Ithaca City Court and released on their own recognizance.
