LANSING, N.Y—Nearly two years later, construction of the new bridge over Salmon Creek in the Town of Lansing has wrapped up.
The grand opening event is scheduled for 11 a.m. on July 21.
The $18.4 million project was originally awarded to Tioga Construction Company in October 2020, and the existing bridge was fully removed by February 2021, as per a tweeted video from the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT).
The original 34B bridge was constructed in 1930, and has since seen more than 7,700 vehicles daily as residents commuted in and out of Ithaca and surrounding areas.
After the official opening of the bridge, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul said in a press release that “This bridge has provided vital connectivity for decades, serving the local community and countless visitors who come to enjoy the natural treasures of the Southern Tier and the Finger Lakes regions. As we continue to build back stronger from the pandemic, we are doubling down on our efforts to prioritize infrastructure that sustains key connections, supports all modes of travel and enhances safety for everyone.”
