TOMPKINS COUNTY, N.Y.—The Cornell University Democrats and Cornell University Progressive Democrats have endorsed Lea Webb for New York State Senate, praising her leadership style and commitment to advocating for people.

“Lea is a dedicated activist and proven organizer who has pushed for a progressive vision during her time in Binghamton,” said Jorge DeFendini, co-founder of the Cornell Progressive Democrats. “Her platform on tenants rights, healthcare for all, and climate justice all demonstrates why she is the best choice to represent District 52 in the Senate.”

Javed Jokhai, president of the Cornell Democrats, said that, as a proven leader with a progressive vision, Webb will represent the people of Central New York and the Southern Tier very well.

At the end of May, the 1199-Service Employees International Union (SEIU) endorsed Webb, citing the importance of electing a representative who prioritizes healthcare worker needs who remained underpaid throughout COVID-19.

1199-SEIU Syracuse Area Vice President Kevin Lockhart Sr. said that “Healthcare workers have been asked to go above and beyond the call of duty over the last two years and we need representatives in office who not only recognize those efforts, but fight to ensure workers are paid a fair and equitable wage. Lea Webb knows the importance of keeping New York a Union Strong State and is the right person to represent our members in the Southern Tier and Central New York. 1199-SEIU proudly endorses Lea Webb for State Senate District 52.”

Webb said that she was honored to receive the endorsement and that as a proud union member, she will continue to prioritize equitable pay and benefits for all workers.

Webb has also been endorsed by former Tompkins County Democratic Committee Chair Irene Stein; Tompkins County Legislator Chairs Martha Robertson and Leslyn McBean-Clairborne; current Tompkins County Legislators Anne Koreman, Veronica Pillar and Greg Mezey; and current Ithaca City Councilmembers Ducson Nguyen, Robert Cantelmo and Jorge DeFendini, among other officials local to Binghamton.
