ITHACA, N.Y.—One man is in critical condition after a series of events took a perilous turn on Seven Mile Drive in the Town of Ithaca.

According to a police press release, deputies from the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) responded to the 100 block of Seven Mile Drive in the Town of Ithaca for a report of an apparently intoxicated white male standing in the caller’s front yard at approximately 4:51 p.m. on Aug. 3.

At 4:56 p.m., deputies responded around the corner to Peachtree Lane for a reported burglary in progress. The suspect described in the burglary report matched the description of the individual standing in the caller’s yard, who had fled the scene prior to the deputies arriving.

During the deputies’ search of the area, they were called to a reported pedestrian/tractor-trailer accident at the intersection of Seven Mile Drive and Elmira Road. At that location, deputies discovered the same male suspect from the previous two calls and were told by witnesses that he had tried to get into their vehicles before attempting to jump on the back of a moving tractor-trailer and trying to break the window.

Witnesses said that the male jumped off the moving tractor-trailer and hit his head on the pavement.

The individual’s identity is being withheld as the TCSO attempts to locate next of kin to make proper notification. He was unresponsive on the scene before being airlifted to the local trauma center in Sayre, PA.
