Traditions and Beyond Quilt Show
The Tompkins County Quilters Guild will be hosting Traditions and Beyond Quilt Show 2022, on October 1 and 2 at the TC3 Field House in Dryden, NY. Many Ithaca and Tompkins County residents are part of the guild and central to organizing the show with the goal of sharing their beautiful work and educating residents about the wonders of quilt making.
The usual biannual show was delayed for a year due to pandemic concerns. This means that there will be three years of magnificent quilts on display. Browse the 350 quilts all hanging up and choose your favorites using Viewers Choice ballots. The quilts range from Traditional, Antique, Modern, Art Quilts, Wall hangings, Baby quilts, Miniatures, Wearables and more.
Looking for gifts for the holidays? Be sure to put your bids down on some of the 100 gorgeous small quilts, quilted dolls, baby quilts, handbags, etc. in the Small Quilt Silent Auction. All locally made with creativity and love! There will also be over 20 vendors selling fabric, quilt supplies, quilts and other handicrafts.
You will also have the opportunity to win this amazing queen-size raffle quilt designed and made by Tompkins County resident Karen Kindle. She coordinated more than 20 quilters to create this spectacular quilt of heirloom quality. All proceeds go to guild projects to create quilts and quilted items to benefit The Cancer Resource Center, Habitat for Humanity, The Advocacy Center, the pediatric center of Cayuga Medical Center and Golisano Hospital, and many small quilts for children experiencing major illness or trauma. Featured will be the Dryden Town Historical Society’s New York Signature Top with signatures from Dryden residents between 1846 and 1849. Anita Loscalzo did much of the research on the signees. Wouldn’t it be cool to see if you recognize any of the names as family members?
The Guild is one of the oldest quilters guilds in the nation and is just about to turn 50 years old. Organized during the quilt revival of the 1970’s, The Tompkins County Quilters Guild made a name for itself in the quilting world during the nation’s bicentennial in 1976 by holding one of the first quilt shows. It showcased 600 quilts from 14 counties and attracted 8000 visitors.
Each show the guild chooses one outstanding member to be highlighted. The featured artist for this year’s Quilt Show is June Silberman, a long-time resident of Ithaca and lifelong fiber artist. Though June makes beautiful quilts, amazing soft sculptures, and even fabric jewelry, her display at the show will consist of her true passion, quilted garments.
You will marvel at the display of our featured artist, June Silberman, at the Traditions and Beyond quilt show, October 1-2, 2022, at the TC3 Field House, in Dryden. In addition, you will see hundreds of quilts, from miniature pieces to king-sized bed quilts. There will be vendors, a book sale, raffle quilt and a small quilt silent auction. Admission is $6. Doors are open from 10-5 both days. Don’t miss this family-friendly event!
