This Monday, October 10th, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., we have an opportunity to grow community, learn, and take action here on Gayogo̱hó꞉nÇ«’ (Cayuga) land. This event takes place at Shawn Greenwood Park, formerly known as Dewitt Park*, at the corner of Buffalo Street and Cayuga Street.
Members of HalftownMustGo, Earthaca, and Extinction Rebellion are holding a community space to honor the rich heritage of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy – the Cayuga, Mohawk, Oneida, Onondaga, Seneca and Tuscarora nations. A space for conversation and connection around honoring the Two Row Wampum and taking action together going forward. There will be an emphasis on solidarity with the Gayogo̱hó꞉nÇ«’ (Cayuga) who are facing escalating violence from the Clint Halftown regime.
You are welcome to bring posters, banners, supplies for making stencils and art, drums to make music, poetry, quotes, and whatever inspires you as tools to help get the word out. There will be an information table, HalftownMustGo flyers to help distribute to spread awareness to passersby and in other community spaces, snacks, letter writing supplies, and a petition to send out to our elected officials to demand they immediately take responsibility for the current U.S. violation of Gayogo̱hó꞉nÇ«’ sovereignty.
Come for as long or as little as you like. If you join, I’ll see you there!
* The park was originally and officially named in honor of Simeon Dewitt, the man who drew the famous map of New York that solemnized the dispossession of the indigenous nations. It is now recently and unofficially renamed in reference to Shawn Greenwood, an unarmed black man who was shot and killed by the police in 2010.
