ITHACA, N.Y.—Two of Ithaca’s primary names in healthcare are poised to join forces in early 2023.

According to an announcement from Cayuga Health System, Cayuga Medical Associates will be absorbing Family Medicine Associates of Ithaca as of Feb. 1, 2023. The new practice will be called Cayuga Primary Care Family Medicine.

The announcement states that the physical locations of Family Medicine Associates at 209 West State Street and 8 Brentwood Drive in Ithaca will both remain the same, and that hopefully patients will not experience much change at all.

“CMA is excited to work with all the amazing providers and the entire team joining us from Family Medicine Associates,” said Jeffrey Penoyer, Chief Operating Officer of Cayuga Medical Associates. “They have a long-standing tradition of excellent, patient-centered, and collaborative care that we look forward to helping carry forward.”

Financial and other terms of the deal were not disclosed. It’s part of a seemingly large 2023 for Cayuga Health System, which was also just awarded $1.5 million for a crisis stabilization center that will be housed in a portion of the Shops at Ithaca Mall.

“Family Medicine Associates of Ithaca was born in the mid-1970s and has become synonymous with patient-centered health care in this region. We’re extremely proud of our reputation and commitment to our community, and in looking for a practice partner, we sought to align ourselves with an organization dedicated to carrying on our values. We believe CMA is that organization,” said Lloyd Darlow, MD, of Family Medicine Associates in the announcement. “We are excited for the future, knowing that our new venture will continue the tradition of family-focused compassionate care to which we have devoted ourselves for nearly fifty years.”
