ITHACA, N.Y.—Beginning this coming Tuesday, Jan. 31, Cinemopalis will begin its “Masked Tuesdays,” during which all staff and moviegoers will be wearing masks.
Masked Tuesdays is an effort to make the theater more accessible to those who feel most comfortable masked and still prefer to be in fully masked environments.
During Masked Tuesdays, candy and baked goods will be available to purchase and take home in place of typical concessions, and masking throughout the visit will be encouraged.
Cinemapolis uses HEPA air filtration systems to maximize adequate air turnover in the theaters, and patrons are welcome to wear masks during all showings throughout the week.
“Cinemapolis is committed to making moviegoing as accessible and enjoyable as possible to everyone in our community,” Executive Director Kate Donohue said in the announcement about Masked Tuesdays.
Also with the intent of lowering barriers for moviegoers is “Captioned Wednesdays,” during which the theater will provide captions on the big screens for any movie for which captions are available.
“The future of moviegoing in Central New York has been a topic of interest to many people in recent weeks,” the announcement said. “Potential local changes are part of an era when the film industry is experiencing massive shifts at all levels. Over the course of its 35-year history, Cinemapolis has evolved in many ways and will continue to evolve. Cinemapolis Board and staff remain committed to featuring movies that entertain and enrich, and they remain focused on creating a welcoming experience for all moviegoers.”
